With the support of the European Commission, between June 2019 and August 2021,
our school has carried out the project titled
‘Methodological and linguistic training of our teachers and development of digital and foreign language competences at our school’,
within the programme ‘KA101 – School education staff mobility’.
Why did we apply for this project?
We have put further training in language teaching and methodology, and the advancement of foreign language and digital competences in the centre of our project. We recognise that traditional pedagogical methods do not always deliver the desired results in our school specialized in inclusive education, therefore, a change in the approach, more flexibility in the organisation of classes, use of the latest methods and a change in the role of the educator are required in order to ensure that our students learn in an active, enjoyable and result-focused way. Our school has always been leading the way in the incorporation and use of new teaching advancements, and as a pilot school, we aim to recommend our tried-and-tested methods to other schools as well. Since the academic year 2020/2021, we have planned and successfully increased the number of English language classes in our curriculum. The project was designed to support this increase as a way to expand our teachers’ set of tools in their language teaching process.
Key points of our project
We have summarized the project’s aims in three key points:
- Expanding our foreign language teachers’ toolkits of teaching methods to ensure the success of the higher level English language teaching starting in the next academic year, as well as our inclusive educational approach.
- Acquainting our teachers with the ever-growing possibilities of using digital tools.
- Providing English language learning opportunities for our non-language teaching colleagues, in hopes of acquiring knowledge of pedagogical advancements, new teaching techniques, as well as forming relationships with other European schools.
Participants of out project
Eight teachers participated in the project through mobility actions.
Three foreign language teachers and one primary school educator (specialized in mathematics-related subjects) who participated in further training in education methodology, conducted in English. These are as follows:

Results of our project
Participants’ toolkits of methods have expanded, both in terms of in-person and online teaching. At the start of the latter – through sharing knowledge with each other – other colleagues were also more prepared and their digital competences have improved.
Our language teachers acquired new methods which they integrated into their teaching, and passed on to other language teachers through horizontal learning.
After finishing the mobility actions, the acquisition of knowledge continues; participants take part in relevant courses, follow different blogs and channels, and share and receive teaching materials and methods with teachers from other countries through online platforms.
The chance has risen to internationalize; a new relationship with a foreign school is under way, and we are thinking of a new project. Our colleagues’ improving English language skills can contribute to its success.
Participants’ pedagogical approach, flexibility, motivation, dedication to the field and openness to new ideas have changed for the better.
